SUBJECT: Seasons Greetings: Federal Complaint Cites Incompetence & Negligence in UF Labs
Dear UF Faculty, Friends & Alumni,
I am contacting you today about an atrocity that you may be funding…and that YOU can help stop!
Earlier this week, on December 24, 2013, Eleventh Hour for Animals filed a federal complaint with the USDA citing four counts of violations of the Animal Welfare Act and alleging systemic incompetence and neglect of animals being housed inside the University of Florida. Veterinarians documented a monkey named Louis with a broken hip on July 9, 2009. Rather than address the injury or treat his pain, Louis was left to languish in agony and deteriorate as lab techs, vets, and principle investigator Stephen Roberts spent an entire year testing him for parasites. When the parasite treatments failed to resolve the issue of his broken bones, Louis was incinerated on July 9, 2010. His veterinary records chillingly note that Louis “was unable to be used.”
The group called for an immediate “high priority” investigation because these records which date back to 2009/2010 were only obtained in April of 2013 after 3 years of legal battles in which activists secured 2 victories in court. You may be surprised to know that UF has once again refused to disclose any current public records to the taxpaying community and is once again choosing to actively violate Florida law.
What are they trying to hide? And why do they refuse to use non-animal research alternatives??
It is estimated that 10,000 animals are being tortured to death inside the university because they earn roughly $400 million annually in taxpayer money for fraudulent cruel experiments. 25 of these animals are thinking and feeling monkeys, 19 of whom are being subjected to extreme pain. If this was real science, they would have nothing to hide. But the University of Florida is corrupt and the animals need relief.
Please make your voice heard and tell UF that they must free the monkeys today.
