In August of 2010, we learned about a monkey named Louis. A lab tech pleaded with UF to release him to a sanctuary and stop his suffering. While the lab tech was on vacation, Louis was murdered and incinerated on July 9, 2010. UF wanted to ensure that the world would never see his deteriorated condition or know his story. In October of 2010, NIO’s campaign against UF commenced. Now we know that Louis was allowed to languish in torment with a broken hip and never given any pain relief. His records document callous neglect, violations of the law, and incompetence. In death, Louis has a voice.

Louis wastes away in agony inside UF’s dungeon

Roberts – Primate Louis – Part II

His Agonizing Incarceration & Death

Louis was bred by Alpha Genesis for a life of torment. On February 25, 2008, this 5-year old and five other monkeys were sold to the University of Florida. Louis was delivered into the hands of Vivisector Stephen Roberts where, upon his incarceration in the dungeon, he immediately developed chronic anorexia and suffered from chronic vomiting.

We know from the University’s own records that on July 9, 2009 their vet determined that Louis had a severely injured bone — the femoral head — and was in tremendous pain. His leg was not attached to the joint!!! One must understand that this precise injury in humans would demand heavy pain medication as well as hip replacement surgery. Yet little Louis, with his bones grinding against each other, received no relief whatsoever and was made to suffer and deteriorate for another full year.

The femoral head is the upper part of the thigh bone that fits into the hip socket.

According to our UF source:

“Most traumatically, the femoral head from his right leg had deteriorated to the point where it was missing(!) This must have caused him excruciating pain. They knew about his severely injured bone since 7/9/09 – a full year before he was euthanized and he was never treated for the pain. The comment on his record at 7/9/09 was ‘Rads also revealed absence of femoral head on (r) leg w/ high degree of instability.’ ‘Instability’ means that the leg was not fully attached at the joint. Imagine trying to walk with deteriorated bone grinding against deteriorated bone during every step… it probably happened prior to his arrival at the lab as the degradation to the bone was very advanced. It’s very likely that the chronic pain from his hip was the stress that caused his continual upset stomach/gut, vomiting, and poor appetite/weight loss. They kept testing for parasites as a cause, but he was always negative. He should have been euthanized immediately upon discovery of his leg issue, or at least had his leg amputated, as would have been done for a pet.”

They waited a full year.

“They seem to have been put him in metabolic cages during the studies, similar to what Bergeron did. These cages are designed to allow for the collection of urine and feces to study drug metabolism. It seems that even though Louis wasn’t used nearly as much in experiments, he was put in the same room with his friends to reduce the anxiety of separation from the colony. Of course, that meant stressfully drugging him for each room transfer…

They keep commenting on how he’s quiet compared to others and doesn’t eat enough, but that seems to be normal for him. Well, YEAH – he’s in pain!

The only consequence of Louis’ agony for the vivisecting sadists appears in a rather chilling entry on the vet records dated April 26, 2010: “…Long term, this monkey has been unable to be used…”

by Camille Marino

On the morning of June 19, 2012, more than 20 uniformed officers stormed my home and seized all computers, laptops, cellphones, cameras, back up disks, thumb drives, CDs, DVDs, ipods, all chargers, and personal papers with passwords and other information.

University of Florida Vivisector Raymond Joseph Bergeron had filed a sworn complaint in January of 2012 in Alachua County stating that I “personally threatened to kill” him and his wife, Kathy, and “burn down” their house with them in it. A physical copy of this complaint has remained in the possession of one of my prospective criminal attorneys in Gainesville until today.

As I have maintained from Day 1, Raymond Bergeron blatantly lied under oath. I have never contacted him in any way, shape, or form, nor have I ever directed anyone else to do so. If he was, indeed, threatened, however, I only regret that those threats never came to fruition.

Officer Jeffrey Vash of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and I just spoke. He both secured and executed the search warrant and the state of Florida has spent the last 11 months meticulously searching through everything I own, and analyzing everything I ever said or did in private communications. They found nothing!

There is no evidence of any threats nor did they find evidence of any criminal activity whatsoever.

My property will be returned this Wednesday at noon.

This might explain why, in their frenzied efforts to silence me and put me in prison, UF ran to the state of Michigan and had an arrest warrant issued for me in Detroit last month. My attorney out there, Matt Savich, is still investigating this situation.

Image of UF’s vivisection lab awarded by the Court in first legal victory, Camille Marino v. University of Florida (Dec. 30, 2011)

Bucky’s Story

Bucky is a capuchin monkey who has remained a captive Vivisector Raymond J. Bergeron since 1999. As the records attached below demonstrate, Bucky’s existence is now one of nightmarish deprivation, self-mutilation, misery and pain. Blood is repeatedly found in his cage, he is self-mutilating, vocalizing, and his hair pulling leaves bald spots. He is agitated and aggressive, exhibiting “stereotypical” pacing, biting of bars, tail holding, as well as scratching around his face and eyes. As of December 31, 2011, it appears that Bucky was still actively being driven insane.

Among the injuries documented are a gash on his left big toe, his left inner thigh was excoriated and bleeding was noted, moist wounds were observed on both knees with significant swelling, and his tail was also found lacerated. The most severe injury Bucky sustained thus far was a deep cut on his leg and knee which required surgery, after which he would open his wounds. Another laceration by his left eye is documented as either another self-mutilation or as being sustained from lab equipment, which would indicate neglect.

Our UF whistleblower offers :

“I’m sure all those injuries were due to thrashing about in his cage – exhibiting rage and hostility. These guys are in prison…”

The guardians of UF’s dungeons are clearly aware of Bucky’s deteriorating mental and physical health as they were monitoring his aggressive behavior toward his fellow inmates. He is so frustrated that he needed to be moved away from the primates at which he had redirected his anger. Rather than release him to a sanctuary, they considered giving him Xanax.

In order to remain in compliance with “strict welfare guidelines” as they inhumanely crush this individual’s spirit and shred his mental health, they must provide “enrichment” to address all of the abnormal behaviors documented. They, therefore, offered him only some ice blocks, half a banana, and interaction twice a day. At one point this additional “therapeutic enrichment” was deemed no longer necessary.

And, inasmuch as they continually note that he is not in pain or is characterized as “BAR” (bright, alert, reactive), we must understand that this is when someone entered the room to interact with him and there is documentation stating that he seemed to like human interaction. His wounds and deteriorating mental health, however, speak for themselves regarding the other 99% of his day.

Ultimately they decided that Bucky is suffering from self-injurious behavior.

The foregoing provides a snapshot of this victim’s life in the UF concentration camp through December 31, 2011. We can safely assume that his torment is continuing unabated as Raymond J. Bergeron continues to profit from Bucky’s demise. We are awaiting further documentation that will indicate to what experiments he may currently be subjected as well as pictures of this capuchin and all of the primates imprisoned at UF.

University of Florida (December 30, 2011)

Update (April 19, 2013): There is indeed a VOP Warrant out of Wayne County. It was issued on Tuesday at the behest of the University of Florida. Apparently, they had their detective subpoena Youtube about a dormant account that has not been used in almost a year. On that page appeared the banned and censored “Defiance is a Virtue” video. This should add credence to our assertions that my and my colleague’s arrests at an anti-vivisection protest last February 4 — as well as my extradition and prosecution in Michigan — were orchestrated by UF to shut down our campaign.

by Camille Marino

On December 30, 2011, I won my first lawsuit against the University of Florida in which the courts, after 14 months, compelled them to disclose their public records documenting two decades of taxpayer-funded primate experiments. On February 4, 2012, after I began to publish said information into the public domain, I was arrested along with another activist at an anti-vivisection demonstration at UF in a blatant attempt to shut down this campaign. My colleague was released the next morning after her arrest for standing on a Florida street with a suspended drivers license. I was extradited to Michigan on contempt of court charges related to a campaign against a vivisector at Wayne State University. Out on bond, I staged a civil disobedience at WSU on May 2 and was subsequently charged with two five-year felonies. All of my contempt charges were ultimately dismissed and one felony, Aggravated Stalking, was dropped. On November 19, 2012, I pleaded guilty to the second felony, “Posting an Unlawful Message,” and was sentenced to six months. Before being released from Wayne County Jail in Detroit on March 9, I won my second lawsuit against the University of Florida. This time, the courts held that the locations of their labs are public record. I am now back home in Florida resuming my campaign to expose federally-funded atrocities at UF. But I remain on probation until December 5, 2015, with extra restrictions imposed upon me by virtue of UF petitioning the state of Florida for the amendments. Any violation of my probation will result in my immediate extradition to Huron Valley Prison in Michigan for no less than 18 months and no more than 5 years.

At approximately 1:30 pm this afternoon, two Sumter County Florida police officers came to my home and informed me that there was a “VOP [violation of probation] Warrant” for my arrest out of Michigan. While I was distracted getting my rescued pitbull Brutus out of the line of any potential fire and locking him outside on the porch, the officers entered my home without presenting a warrant and, definitely, without an invitation. I presented no ID as I am under no legal obligation to do so. They proceeded to walk around my home visually inspecting at least three different rooms. They did not cuff me or place me under arrest. After securing Brutus and making one phone call to inform someone that I was being arrested, I went outside as I did not appreciate their intrusive presence in my home. Outside in the driveway, I was cuffed in front of my neighbors who had been alarmed by the two police cruisers outside. After being handcuffed, I was informed that I was not under arrest yet, but merely being “detained” while they waited for “confirmation” of the alleged warrant. After about 25 minutes, I was informed that Michigan did not want to extradite me and so I was not under arrest after all. They uncuffed me and left.

As of 6 pm EST it is confirmed that neither my Detroit prosecutor, my Detroit probation officer, my Detroit lawyer, nor my Florida probation officer are aware of any probation violation or warrant being issued out of Wayne County in Michigan. Although all the facts are not yet available, at this moment it appears that I am the subject of a continued campaign of police harassment and intimidation orchestrated by the University of Florida.

The facts as they appear at the moment are:

After my first legal victory in December 2011, I was arrested in February 2012 and extradited to Michigan in March 2012.

In January 2012, University of Florida vivisector Raymond Joseph Bergeron, responsible for the bulk of primate experiments documented in the records in my possession, swore to a false complaint in this state that I personally threatened to “burn down my house with me in it.”

On June 19, 2012, my home was raided by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) based upon Bergeron’s complaint. They seized all computers, laptops, cellphones, cameras, back up disks, thumb drives, CDs, DVDs, ipods, all chargers, and personal papers.

Today, April 18, 2013, I was “detained” at my home in Florida under the guise of a “VOP Warrant” out of Michigan that has not yet been produced and has yet to be located.

I must be clear that is it unconfirmed at this moment whether a warrant out of Michigan does or does not exist. But I can say without equivocation that if a warrant has been issued, it is both fictitious and without merit as I have violated none of the conditions of my probation and it will need to be challenged in court.

It would appear that the University of Florida is intent upon waging a campaign of intimidation against a single activist that refuses to be intimidated. At the moment, I am the one of the only voices that stands between the tormented monkeys in their labs and the taxpayers that infuse roughly $450 million dollars annually into the pockets of their “researchers.” I will not be silenced. The floor plans to their vivisection labs were leaked and published in January 2012. Perhaps with the latest legal victory, they realize that the walls behind which vivisectors commit their atrocities with our money are about to come tumbling down.

This site has been on hiatus since I inadvertently learned that the University of Florida had my probation terms out of Michigan amended in Florida. I served six months for an anti-vivisection campaign in Detroit and am currently on probation until December 5, 2015.

After meeting with my probation officer this morning, this site is off hiatus.

Upon prompting from my attorney at my sentencing in Detroit, Judge Bryan Levy ruled “she still has the same First Amendment rights as everyone else.” Irrespective of the further restrictions UF has had this state impose on me, my probation officer just confirmed that my probation cannot be violated in Florida for exercising said privileges. I am free, therefore, to continue to publish the records documenting UF’s’ primate torture program for which I just spent 29 months fighting in court to compel full disclosure. This campaign is now officially reinstated…

I will fully adhere to the extra restrictions imposed on me by UF and the state of Florida. This, however, is not expected to impede others’ efforts on the ground in Gainesville from where I am now physically banned.

Please listen to The Kevin Storm Show this weekend when Lisa Grossman will speak about the ongoing efforts of students to Boycott UF and how it is our responsibility to focus our energies on this one single institution until they desist in committing taxpayer-funded vivisection atrocities.

All of the records awarded in Camille Marino v. The University of Florida are now with my lawyer, Marcy I. LaHart, and will be in my hands shortly.

On Sunday, I look forward to speaking about this campaign on The Kevin Storm Show.

However, purely by accident, I learned today that UF has had the conditions of my probation for an anti-vivisection campaign out of Detroit amended in the state of Florida without any notification. I am still unclear about what these new restrictions entail other than an outstanding “no contact order” and limitations designed to silence me and send me directly to prison. Therefore, this website is now on hiatus until further notice.

This is simply a temporary precautionary measure.

In death, Louis has a voice.

by NIO Florida

Complete Veterinary Record for “Louis” (2008 – 2010)

Roberts – Primate Louis – Part I

Roberts – Primate Louis – Part II

His Agonizing Incarceration & Death

Louis was a long-tailed macaque bred by Alpha Genesis for a life of torment.

He was unceremoniously murdered and incinerated on July 9, 2010.

The Tragic & Horrifying Life of Monkey 2A4

The initial record confirms that 2A4 and nine other male monkeys were trapped in the jungles of Guyana in 1992, probably as babies (their mothers most likely murdered in front of them), and ripped from their homes and families. Terrified, bewildered, and disoriented, they were shipped to the US. We were unable to confirm which airline was responsible. The tragic fate of little 2A4 was then sealed when he, along with his nine comrades, was sold by Charles River to Vivisector Raymond J. Bergeron at the University of Florida.

Image secured from inside UF

A UF lab insider describes how these monkeys are then driven insane:

“[The monkeys are imprisoned in individual] cages as males would kill each other if housed together. Removed from their normal very social dynamic, the isolation makes them insane. I mean that literally. They are no longer normal monkeys as found in the wild. Most of these animals have been bred for this purpose (it’s cheaper), although some of the older ones were wild caught. I’m not sure which is worse. They’re given mirrors on the walls so they can see each other and dog toys to play with. This species (Cebus apella) is about the size of a skinny cat. It’s the “organ grinder” monkey, also called the capuchin monkey. The cages are about 2.5′ square. They have a false back in them that are attached to handles on the front. The researcher pulls the handles forcefully towards them, squeezing the monkey up against the front of the cage so that the anesthesia can be given. Monkeys are smart. They know how to evade all attempts to force them to do anything, especially after years of the same treatment. They learn how to fight back. That’s why this method of restraint is so stressful. They fight back so well, that you have to try again and again to get them pinned just right so you can get the needle into the thigh quickly. It’s always a two person job and never easy or unstressful.“

The records confirm that 2A4 was the subject of an iron chelation study: he was injected with an overload of iron that would compromise him for the duration of his life in order to test “chelating agents” or drugs that are intended to remove excess iron in humans. As we noted previously, a major Health Science Center’s benefactor suffered and died from Hemochromatosis, a disease where too much iron is absorbed. It is reasonable, therefore, to conclude that the human symptoms of this disease were perpetually induced in 2A4 throughout his terrifying imprisonment: abdominal pain, fatigue, joint pain, lack of energy, loss of body hair, weight loss, and weakness.

Image secured from inside UF

The vet records also reveal that, after 24A was wrenched from his squeeze cage, he was subjected to regular tuberculin tests that were injected into his eyelids. This is normal procedure to ensure that tuberculosis isn’t present. That disease will decimate an entire primate facility very quickly.

The legally-required documentation of the controlled substances used (Ketamine, Telazol) and other vet procedures illustrates the horryifying regimens to which 2A4 was subjected for 17 years. He was routinely “knocked down,” dragged from his cage, experimented on, thrown back in his cage, and left alone to languish until his tormentors returned. When moved within the Communicore Building, his tiny body would probably have been carried by hand from room to room to conduct invasive assaults on his fragile body because they are basically taking them down the hall to different rooms. This is generally done by holding their biceps behind their backs with both hands and holding the monkeys well away form the body in case they start to wake up. These leaked floor plans will allow one to chart how he was (and other nonhuman inmates are) transported unconscious through the underground animal prison labyrinths.

Finally, after 17 years of torment, 2A4 died at the gloved hands of one of his terrorists in 2009. There are two likely reasons for his death.

One reason may be that while he was fighting to escape his attackers, the anesthesia may have been injected into a vein, artery, or lung. Our UF insider explains:

“The anesthesia drugs are supposed to be delivered IM (intra-muscular) and an accidental IV injection would be fatal because it would go immediately to the brain and stop the heart instead of slowly being released over time from the muscle tissue. In normal injections, one pulls back on the syringe plunger a little first and if you see blood, you know you hit a vein and you would then withdraw and restick to be sure you hit muscle. Unfortunately, the monkeys are struggling against the restraint and squirming so much that you take your chances and go ahead and inject quickly if you are in the muscle area – and hope you don’t hit a vein. This also means you frequently hit bone (VERY painful) and nerves by accident too.”

The second possibility relates to the fact that 2A4 was made into a drug addict. Because these monkeys are “knocked down” so frequently, they become drug addicts and develop a resistance to the drugs used to subdue them:

“The larger and larger doses become more and more dangerous as the window between effective sedation and overdose becomes more and more narrow. This also lends itself to causing impatience in the technician who goes a bit overboard in trying to get the job done and the animal is continuing to fight to maintain consciousness. The monkeys must be drugged because they are extremely dangerous if handled any other way. Despite their small size, they can easily bite your finger off and cause sever damage to any other part of your body they get hold of (they will often go for your face).”

Again, the 17-year long incarceration of 2A4, his life of torture and murder at the hands of his tormentors, was regulated by and in full compliance with the strict guidelines of the Animal Welfare Act.

Monkey 55D was named Little Girl by those responsible for her ten years of agony. Girl monkeys are rarely used and 55D suffered from the pain and misery that only a female being could. For the last three of her ten years at the hands of the evil Dennis Brooks, 55D was made to endure horrific “ophthalmology” experiments while Brooks knew she was suffering terribly from the endometriosis progressing through her little body. The final pathology after 55D’s murder:

HISTORY: Pelvic mass and reproductive abnormalities.

GROSS: Caudal abdominal adhesions widespread around uterus and urinary bladder.

MICROSCOPIC: Endometriosis, abdomen focally severe

Endometriosis fiber start in the uterus but left untreated can travel the rest of the body abnormally joining organs. During menstruation, endometriosis fibers cause pain wherever they are located.

View her records HERE.

Captive of the University of Florida

As with other victims languishing in the UF dungeons of Dennis E. Brooks, monkey 55D was tortured daily. Shortly after her arrival from a Puerto Rican “monkey mill,” her left leg and right side of her head were shaved for easy access for injections and eye exams. For one of several studies 55D was used for, her daily routine consisted of being compressed in her tiny cage, injected with Ketamine and transported to another UF building. Sometimes the 3 pound female primate was just “knocked down” with the Ketamine before having her eye sockets forced open with ocular spreaders for study. Many other times she was intubated for anesthesia and put on a respirator. Her day often included being catheterized just to avoid messy urine getting in the way. Prior to examinations, 55D endured humiliating vaginal and rectal swabbing.

Professor Brooks was able to come up with more sadistic tests to perform on primates’ eyes causing severe pain, cataracts and lesions of the eyes. Poor little 55D, an innocent prisoner and someone’s daughter, suffered through several such experiments all the while suffering through constant pelvic, abdominal and uterine pain that was recorded yet not treated, for the last three years of her life.

HRT: Heidelberg Retina Tomograph. With her eye forced open, a laser beam is used to scan the entire eye.

PERG: Pattern Electroretinogram. 55D, by now a Katamine addict like all of Brooks’ prisoners, had her eyes spread open while he actually attached several electrodes to her eyeball and surrounding skin- aided by the side of her head being shaved upon arrival. The reason for what transpires next is is known only to the twisted mind of Dennis E Brooks. An unknown amount of voltage is run through the electrodes and into 55D’s eyes while flashes light flood her face.

Fluorescein Angiography: 55D was also injected straight into her eye on many many occasions as this was the main test she was used for. A fluorescent dye, commonly known as D&C Yellow #8, is injected into the retina to examine circulation. With her eyes still spread open, Brooks’ team shines a light in her eyes and takes picture. Each time this is done, 55D is intibated, on a respirator and catheterized.

The University of Florida willingly employs yet another psychopath and serial killer whom they let live out his sadistic fantasies while they all pocket some of the funds. Non-animal skin and eye experiment alternatives are among the most available. Brooks once again declined any treatment for endometriosis for 55d and ordered her murder ten years after her arrival to the UF hellhole.
